Season 11 opened with a new face, a familiar friend, the Grand Dame and plenty of quilting. Six women, six bags, and three of them say Chanel.
Courtney’s flap. Newcomer Courtney Ajinça made an entrance in what she called her “seven inchers,” and the bag swinging above them looks like a black Chanel Classic Flap with gold hardware. Judging by how much of her hip it covers, it looks like the Jumbo. Chanel currently lists the Large (Jumbo) Classic Handbag in black at $12,600. A classic first impression.
Why it works: Black tights, black patent pumps, black quilting. The only things breaking the monochrome are the red soles and the gold chain, which is exactly the right amount of interruption.
Robyn’s Speedy. Robyn Dixon is back as a friend of the cast, and her bag is small enough to miss if the trousers weren’t pointing straight at it. It looks like the Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière 20 in Bicolor Monogram Empreinte, black leather with the giant monogram pressed in and filled in beige. Louis Vuitton lists the Speedy Bandoulière 20 at $3,000. Next to red-and-blue stripes, a two-tone bag is the one thing that can keep up.
Karen’s woven clutch. Karen Huger walked in head-to-toe white, the perfect backdrop for a deep burgundy bag. Hers is a slim woven leather clutch held loosely at her side. It looks like a Bottega Veneta Intrecciato clutch, and the closest current match is the Lauren 1980 in Barolo, the same burgundy Intrecciato Lauren Hutton made famous in American Gigolo. Bottega lists the Lauren 1980 at $4,800 and the Small Lauren 1980 in Barolo at $4,400. The camera never gave it a full close-up, so take the exact model as a strong guess rather than a fact.
Why it works: All-white plus gold jewelry plus one deep, rich bag. Nothing else needed.
Ashley’s mini. Ashley Darby went full black leather for the arena suite, cropped jacket and matching pants, and the bag kept the theme. It looks like a small black quilted Chanel flap with a gold CC turn-lock and a gold chain top handle, which points to the Chanel Mini Flap Bag with Top Handle. Chanel lists it in black lambskin with gold-tone metal at $7,200. Leather on leather, with just enough gold to catch the suite lights.
Stacey’s chain. Out on the street in a red, white and black striped strapless dress, Stacey Rusch carried something slim, black and quilted on a fine gold chain. It looks like a Chanel Wallet on Chain, though a Mini Flap is possible since her hand covers the bottom. Chanel lists the Classic Wallet on Chain at $3,850. Bold stripes, tiny bag. The math checks out.
Gizelle’s croc. Gizelle Bryant matched her bag to her blazer’s energy: a glossy red croc-embossed tote, structured and open at the top, with two rolled handles. It sat on the lounge table beside her with no logo facing the camera, so the brand is unconfirmed. The look is easy to borrow, though. Strathberry’s Midi Tote in burgundy croc-embossed leather brings the same polish in a deeper shade, with a single rolled handle and the brand’s Music Bar closure, at $875. Orange blazer, red croc. Bold, but it works.
Three Chanels, a Speedy, a Lauren and a red croc walk into a premiere. The season is off to a well-dressed start.
